  Family Caregiver Support Group

In an effort to address the unmet emotional needs of family members who provide care for individuals living with brain injury, the Krempels Brain Injury Foundation has developed a Family Caregiver Support Group.

What Participants Say

"This group is great. I really look forward to getting together on Wednesdays."

"I feel like I can be myself...they (the group members) know what I'm talking about."

"I thoroughly enjoy the

group."

"I can relax, laugh and cry."

Now in its fourth year, this group provides an opportunity for family caregivers of people living with brain injury to develop and nurture their own base of support. The format for these groups is informal – group members come when they can; the agenda varies from facilitated discussions to guest speakers regarding legal, financial and medical issues, and guided emotional healing experiences.

The Family Caregiver Support Group meets weekly from 10:00am to noon at the Community Campus in Portsmouth, N.H.  Facilitators are Pam Sollenberger (above, second from right), nationally certified bereavement counselor, and Lisa Hanson (above right), program director of the  Family Support Program.

A Family Caregivers’ Writing Workshop

In honor of National Family Caregiver’s Month, The Krempels Brain Injury Foundation (TKBIF) will be hosting a writing workshop for family caregivers.  This workshop is open to any family caregiver in the community, regardless of brain injury affiliation or involvement with TKBIF. The six week series will be facilitated by Rebecca Webb. This writing group will be focused on you, both as a caregiver and as someone with wants and needs separate from your role as a caregiver. Through writing prompts and exercises, you will be invited to reflect on your experiences and to envision healing possibilities. Writing is a wonderful companion to talking. It invites exploration and allows you to hear yourself free of the opinions of others. The blank page is a space where you can gain perspective on your life and discover more about what you think. Writing not only helps clarify thoughts and feelings, it also makes them more manageable and offers a healing release.  In participating in this group, you do not have to worry about your writing ability. This will be a safe, judgment-free space in which your voice, your experience, and your truth will be valued. I hope you will join us! Rebecca Webb

is a former writing teacher at UNH with a master’s degree in nonfiction writing and 20 years of teaching experience. As a writing teacher and life coach, Rebecca is passionate about helping people share their stories and speak their truths. She has a deep understanding of the therapeutic value of writing.
