Grant Programs
The Krempels Brain Injury Foundation’s Family Support Program manages two different sources of limited funding assistance for people living with the effects of brain injury: the Family Support Emergency Grant and the The Anna Fund.
Family Support Emergency Grant:
In 1995, David Krempels founded The Krempels Brain Injury Foundation. At that time, the Foundation consisted of just a grant program. We’ve gone through many changes since then, but we’ve kept the heart of supporting those in financial need. FY 2009, TKBIF has appropriated $10,000 to fund grant awards for the benefit of individuals and families.
• Focus on the needs and quality of life issues of SteppingStones members and/or their family caregivers.
• For all other applicants, we are the funder of last resort, with first referral to the State of NH thru BIANH (please contact Maureen Long at (603)769-0203 for more information), or to other resources.
• We give priority consideration to urgent financial emergencies that cannot be addressed by any other resources.
• We focus on “recent” injury – generally defining “recent” as within 2 years; some discretion will be exercised when new developments/new crisis present a “recent” need.
• In addition, we will consider applications from those individuals who do not meet the guidelines for the state’s grant program and have nowhere else to turn. These applicants must provide verbal/written denial from the state.
Should you apply?
Although we take every brain injury seriously, we dedicate our limited resources to helping families and individuals who demonstrate significant financial need facing the difficulties of life after a severe brain injury caused by trauma, tumor or stroke.
If you live in the state of New Hampshire, and you think you may be eligible for our help, please call Lisa Hanson (603) 433-9821 or proceed to the Grant Application Process page.
The Anna Fund:
The Krempels Brain Injury Foundation is proud to present the The Anna Fund. Inspired by the generosity of Anna Hanson when she was 13 years old, The Anna Fund is a small grant which provides specialized funding for children affected directly or indirectly by brain injury. While most grant programs focus on funding basic living expenses and equipment for individuals and families in need, The Anna Fund provides resources for children and their families to take a break and just have fun – whether a day visit to an amusement or water park or other specific request for an outing.
Anna began donating to the Krempels Brain Injury Foundation in 2005 by giving money saved through her allowance, collecting contributions from other students for her self-named “Brain Power” fund, and by selling various items at her disposal and creation, such as the locally famous “Annamals" made from new and donated socks. As of 2009, her efforts have raised over $1,000 as well as a greater local awareness of brain injury. We are delighted to create a fund from her selfless contributions to help children smile!
If you would like to apply to The Anna Fund or would like to make a financial or sock donation, please contact Lisa Hanson, Family Support Director, at 603.433.9821 or send an email to familysupport@krempelsfoundation.org before applying.
